Senior Research Scientist

Dr. David Mendonca

My research explores improvisation and adaptation in emergency response. I am specifically interested in cognitive foundations of individual and group decision making, prospects for supporting cognition with computer-based systems, and the development of prescriptive guidance to inform practice.

My work has been funded on a near-continuous basis by the National Science Foundation (NSF) since 2001, including through a CAREER award. My "other" job is as Senior Principal Decision Scientist at MITRE Corporation. Earlier in my career, I was twice a visiting researcher at Technical University at Delft (The Netherlands)--where I had the pleasure of working with my dissertation advisor, Al Wallace—and once a visiting researcher at University of Lisbon. I am also a former NSF Program Director and a Senior Member of IEEE.
