Integrating social responsibility and ethical AI into logistics operations is essential for creating sustainable, inclusive solutions. This talk will explore the intersection of logistics, social responsibility, and ethical AI, focusing on solutions for navigating uncertainty in healthcare, complex emergencies, and food supply chains. Through real-world case studies, the talk will examine mobile clinic deployments in unstable regions, strategies for resource distribution, and the development of resilient cold food supply chains for underserved farmers. The talk will also address the role of ethical AI-enabled decision-support tools, highlighting insights from the guide "Beyond Algorithmic Fairness," which advocates for AI frameworks that prioritize ethical considerations beyond algorithmic fairness. These examples demonstrate how logistics systems can be designed to not only improve efficiency but also foster social equity and resilience, ensuring vulnerable populations are supported in times of need.

Dr. Rosemarie Santa González is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology and part of the NSF AI Institute for Advances in Optimization (AI4OPT). She obtained her Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Quebec at Montreal, and holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Her work centers on socially responsible logistics, addressing complex challenges in healthcare, disaster management, and food supply chains using AI-enabled optimization. Dr. Santa González leads projects that optimize logistics systems while upholding principles of social equity and resilience, particularly for marginalized communities. In addition to her research on mobile clinic deployments and collaborations with underserved populations, she contributes to the development of ethical AI-enabled decision-support tools. She also advocates for AI frameworks that go beyond fairness and ensure ethical deployment in the decision-making processes. Dr. Santa González is committed to advancing, developing, and supporting tools that balance efficiency with social impact, fostering resilient and socially responsible logistics systems.
