Master's Graduate Felipe Ortiz and Professor Sharkey receive Best Security Engineering Track Paper Award at the IISE Annual Meeting

Felipe Ortiz, MEng '16, and Professor Tom Sharkey will receive the best paper award in the Security Engineering track at the IISE Annual Meeting for their paper "Modeling the Impact of User Rehabilitation on Illegal Drug Trafficking Operations."  The paper, based on Felipe's Master's Thesis, creates a large-scale simulation model of the interactions between the government (including law enforcement and the judicial system) and an illegal drug trafficking operation in order to understand how rehabilitation, as opposed to incarceration, impacts the system in the long-term.    They will present their work and receive the award at the IISE Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA in May 2017.
